Shirley-Lorraine is one of those fascinating, everyday people that would be considered by most to be normal. She's worked hard her whole life, married, raised children and then grandchildren. Now as her age is allowing her body to betray her, she found herself carefully slotted by the medical establishment to be uncertain as to whether or not she could survive the surgery she so desperately needed.  After several years of fighting to have the surgery, not only has she survived surgery and physiotherapy in a group home, but is also truly home again and taking care of a husband, children and grandchildren.

I have placed her inside a still recovering Florida landscape, as a tribute to the tenacity and endurance of human spirit and natures regrowth. It is one of her favourite vacation areas, and still a place she can escape to.  In general, as humanity ages, it is important to all of us to not take our seniors for granted, nor cancel their contributions to our lives because it is easier for us to do so.  They are the immediate and undeniable future of each and every one of us; they are now the mirror to which we watch our youth and beauty slide away every day of a future not so far away.
