Punta Gorda Once Had a Banyon Tree
by Jane Hoople, Artist, 2005

Medium:  Acrylic

When down south last year, days before the hurricanes, I was lamenting about the fact that Punta Gorda's one and only Banyon Tree was being "trimmed" (butchered, really) to prevent it from impeaching on the Holiday Inn's building on the right hand side.

3 days later, that hotel went missing in the hurricane. As an example of Mother Nature making a statement, the tree remains to this day.  I painted it this winter during the snowstorms to remind me of that day I last saw it, but now without that pink hotel.
