Encaustic
Suburban Tree by Jane Hoople, Artist, 2004 Medium: Wax & Oil Availability: NFS (Its just a test piece, really) I took an Encaustic painting class, which really means painting with hot wax tinted with oil paints. I had no idea what the process was, but loved the end result I'd been seeing in galleries. It was a lot of fun, and although it is hard to control (at least on my obviously initial attempt) I'd love to try this again. The layering effect is what truly makes these paintings marvellous. It's something hard to shown in a photograph, which is unfortunate. And just to make a point, that guy at Home Depot who sent me "home to get my husband" when I was shopping for torches, can go kiss my #@$. I don't shop there anymore. |
